Stop Curbstoning

Curbstoning is the repeated, unlicensed commercial sale of used cars for profit.

It is not an ordinary citizen selling one or two vehicles. It is the hustler churning and flipping 20, 50 or even more cars every year.

Research shows that up to one in five vehicles sold outside of licensed automotive dealerships are not legal private party car sales but are illegal sales of curbstoned vehicles.

Curbstoning hurts your community in two ways: loss of control and loss of revenue.

Because enforcement resources are spread thin, it's up to car buyers to be informed, automotive dealers to be proactive, and municipalities to be responsive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Question: If I put a For Sale sign on my car, am I a curbstoner?

A. Answer: Absolutely not! Curbstoning is a big business involving the sale of many vehicles by unlicensed sellers. In fact, although curbstoners often pose as a car's owner, they usually do not hold the title to the cars they sell.
